| Audubon Mississippi Purple Martin Cam |
|
| Purple Martins are the first neo-tropical migrants to return to Vicksburg , Mississippi , each year, arriving in the first week of February. Audubon Mississippi has erected 24 gourds at its Bird Conservation Office in historic downtown Vicksburg . The martins course over the Yazoo and Mississippi river floodplains feasting on dragonflies and other large flying insects. Purple Martins are among Audubon's birds of conservation concern in the Mississippi River watershed. Other urban species of interest include the Peregrine Falcon, Common Nighthawk, Chimney Swift and Mississippi Kite. Other habitats of interest in the watershed include bottomland forest, emergent wetlands, coastal habitats and grasslands. |

| Five young in our monitored gourd left the nest by mid-June. We hope to load video clips from the nesting season soon. Thanks for watching Audubon's Purple Martin Cam. |
